KILAGUNI SERENA LODGE, Tsavo West National Park
Situated in the lee of Mt Kilimanjaro, encircled by
volcanic splendour lies Kilaguni Serena Lodge, the first lodge to be
built in a National Park . Inspirationally positioned around a
waterhole, the rooms, the open-air restaurant, game viewing decks and
rock-built bar enjoy uninterrupted views of the legendary snows of
Kilimanjaro.
The elegant rooms, 52 standard and 6 suites, styled to
provide world-class luxury, whilst drawing on a quintessentially African
aura, feature private verandahs with magnificent views to eternity.
Tsavo West, famous for its Man Eaters of Tsavo, a breed of abnormally
large and aggressive lions preyed on the unsuspecting workers during
construction of the great Uganda Railway in the 1900’s, offers a variety
of exciting excursions. Mzima Springs, an oasis for wildlife, where 90
million gallons of water mysteriously bubbles out of the ground,
offering a natural jacuzzi to frolicking hippo and opportunistic
crocodiles, all visible from the underwater viewing tank. The
impressive lava flow, Sheitani meaning devil, winding through the hills
and peppered with caves and sinkholes, together with Roaring Rocks are
an eerie reminder of the volcanic forces that brought Tsavo into being.
The Rhino Sanctuary offers visitors an opportunity to spot one of the
“Big Five”.
