SAFARIS SWEEP THE BOARD AT HOLIDAYS 2005 TOURISM AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE
Coastweek - -Southern Cross Safaris have swept the board taking four sub
categories and the overall 'Tourism Awards Of Excellence for Adventure
Tourism' during the annual Tourism Awards of Excellence sponsored by
'Going Out Guide'? Magazine and The Sarit Centre.
Prize giving was later held at the Jacaranda Hotel, Nairobi.
The awards aim were? to:
encourage and celebrate creativity, professionalism and innovation within
Kenya's tourism industry,
provide a benchmark for best practice,
promote business planning and development among Kenya's tourism operators,
encourage the continual raising of standards and publicly recognise and
reward excellence.
The overall "Tourism Award Of Excellence" was won by Southern Cross
Safaris for its initiative in adventure tourism specifically its SXScuba
Aqua-land Adventure Center based on the magnificent Galu Beach at
Pinewood Village Hotel Diani.
Activities include mountain bike tours, safaris, kayaking, jet ski
safaris, big game fishing, culture tours, conservation projects, diving,
kite surfing and whale shark educational projects.
Due to their outstanding service SXScuba have recently tied up a working
partnership with the new luxurious five star Diani Reef Health Resort
and Spa and have a new dive center there giving premier service to a
premier product.
Southern Cross Safaris Mombasa Marketing Manager Jerome Jones attributes
their achievements to the hard work and determination to the dedicated
team they have.
"That is from the cleaner to the Managing Director and Chairman.
"From the Managing Director, Chairman and the rest of the team, we all
get involved in giving a quality personal service to our clients.
"Going that extra mile and making it personalised improves our level of
service and professionalism further the back bone of our company.
"The award categories were submitted by me and the awards presented to
me but I have to be brutally honest I am just a cog in a very big wheel.
"Without the support and guidance of my M.D Torben Rune and Chairman
Mike Kirkland I doubt we would have had such a impact at the awards
ceremony and all the awards are in honour of every single member of
Southern Cross Safaris Team" says Jones.
This is due to the fact that SXS diversify and offer their clients what
they require to come back again and encourage Kenyan's to travel within
their own country more often.
"My aim is for every single person around the world to think of Kenya
when they want to go on holiday without hesitation, we take Kenya to the
world and bring the world to Kenya, everyone involved in the tourism
sector is doing their utmost to promote Kenya".
To improve on local tourism Kenya has to be made accessible to the
Kenyan's hence
www.kenyalastminute.com
(which won the award for new tourism development) a subsidiary of SXS.
The reason to why it was started was to promote domestic tourism within
Kenya.
"Launched in October 2004 it is a new and exciting website constructed
to give travellers an opportunity to choose a last minute deal at the
touch of a button giving quality products and last minute prices, this
is definitely the way forward".
