ABERDARE PROPERTIES
OUTSPAN HOTEL
The 30 acre setting and two purpose-built conference rooms lend
themselves to creative meetings and training sessions with numerous
tempting leisure activities for when 'school's out'. There is tennis,
squash, billiards, badmington, and adjacent to the hotel, a 9-hole golf
course.
For the less sports-minded, there is a daily display of traditional
Kikuyu dancing, another 16 acres for nature walks along the Chania
River, escorted bird walks, excursions to nearby tea and coffee farms
and of course, morning and afternoon game drives in the Abedares Salient
where Treetops is sited and where only specially licensed 4 wheel drive
vehicles are permitted to enter. We'll challenge anyone to say they're
bored!
Just 160 kms on a good road from Nairobi and 2 kms from Nyeri town
center, the Outspan offers guests a range of accommodations - twin
rooms, garden suites, or cottages. Since the hotel's inception in 1927,
the atmosphere has changed little.
The gardens are a riot of sculptured colour and the rooms, many with
their own log fires, have been recently redecorated to retain the charm
and comfort of an historical and well-established hotel. And many of our
guarded recipes go back a year or two. Supplied with abundant dairy and
fresh produce from nearby farms, our chefs lovingly create dishes.
TREETOPS
The famous Treetops Hotel started off very meekly - a tiny two
roomed dwelling lofted into a fig tree as early as the 1930's.
In the 1950's Treetops became for a while the centre of the world stage
- albeit a sad one. For in an evening of one day young Elizabeth Windsor
slept quietly as a Princess and woke the following day to realise she
had become Queen - her father, King George VI having died during the
night.
Thereafter, Treetops reputation had spread far and wide; for the
globetrotter, the rich, the famous, and the fashionable, no visit to
Africa - Kenya was regarded complete without experiencing the Treetops
adventure.
Even today, with all the exciting safari lodges, and camps Kenya has to
offer, 50 room Treetops heads the list for many of our customers.
Treetops is sited in the heart of the dense lichen hung forest of the
Aberdares National Park, and overlooks two waterholes, and the
magnificent snowy peaks of Mount Kenya.
For the safety and comfort of several observation lounges, guests can
photograph at close quarters the territorial charge of short sighted
rhino, a protective elephant matriarch chaperoning her calf, the
graceful bounding of a bushbuck doe. A family of lions, have on more
than one occasion, made a meal of some poor unfortunate warthog to the
fascinated horror of Treetops diners.
For those guests who value their sleep as much as the nocturnal
entertainment, everyone is allocated a comfortable bed in either a
single or twin room with plentiful shared bathroom facilities, or on
request, suites with its own bathroom. If you wish to do your game
viewing the 'lazy way', the professional hunter can wake you up each
time one of the big five visits the tree house! Make sure you do not
miss out an experience of a lifetime.
